For this project, I wanted to design from existing source material to design a LEGO® Star Wars™ set that balanced accuracy and display value with the strength and playability of a large scale LEGO® playset. With the last official minifigure scale version of the Nu-class released in 2009, I wanted to explore what a modern interpretation of the set could look like.
Designed entirely in BrickLink Studio over roughly two weeks, the model features folding wings, retractable landing gear, an opening cockpit and a detailed interior with space for the full minifigure lineup. Custom minifigure prints were created and adapted in Procreate and applied using PartDesigner.
Using references from across Star Wars media, the design was continually refined to better capture the distinctive proportions of the original ship while remaining strong, playable and achievable within the LEGO® system. Some proportions were deliberately compromised to manage scale and piece count, while later iterations improved the accuracy of the wings and overall silhouette. I intend to physically build and test the model in the future, using what I learn to improve the design further.
